Questions
What is the relationship between ReverbNation and CONNECT Songs?
CONNECT Songs is ReverbNation’s publishing arm. CONNECT Songs assists ReverbNation artists with publishing administration and royalty collection, as well as sync licensing.
How much money do you take?
We take 20% of any royalties that we administer for you. When a song is synced, we will split the publishing fee 50/50 with you and split the master fee 30/70 (with you earning 70%).
Are there any fees outside of the commission that you take?
No. There are no sign up fees or membership fees; we will only take the commissions
When do I get my money?
Payments are made on a quarterly basis.
Royalty income - when you first sign up, it will take around 6-9 months for the collection societies to process the information provided to them regarding your activity. On average, it will take around three quarters for you to begin receiving royalties. After this period, you will receive quarterly payments.
Sync fees - when sync fees are paid to us by the client using your music, we'll pay your share in the next quarterly distribution. This means that income from upfront sync fees is usually paid quicker than any royalties due for the usage.
How will my royalties be paid to me?
If you are not a direct member of a collection society, Sentric will receive your royalties and then pay them out to you. If you are a direct member of a collection society and have provided the details of your CAE/IPI number, your share of any royalties will be paid directly from your collection society.
Am I still allowed to pursue my own deals while I’m signed up with CONNECT Songs?
While you are registered with CONNECT Songs, we will act as your sole publishing administrator, but you are free to leave at any time with 45-days notice. When it comes to sync placements, you are free to pursue other non-exclusive deals in addition to our services.
Does it matter where I'm based?
We work mainly with artists that are based in North America or Europe, but you are free to sign up regardless of your geographic location.
Do I have to have recordings of my songs before adding them to my CONNECT Songs profile?
No. You can add song information to your profile without having to upload a recording. This will allow you to collect royalties for your written compositions as well as the live performance of your songs. If a recorded version of the song is created, you will be free to add it to your profile at any time.
How much money will I earn per gig?
The amount of money that you receive is dependent on a number of factors, including the size of the venue, the price of the ticket, and your place on the bill.
Do I get paid for every performance?
You are entitled to royalties for every performance, but you must submit a claim in order to be paid. By keeping your CONNECT Songs profile up to date, you will ensure that you maximize the royalties you earn from your songs.
Can I get money for gigs I've already played or airplay my music has already received?
Yes. This is assessed on a case-by-case basis, but you can usually claim royalties for performances/airplay that occurred up to 6-12 months ago.
Can I submit live claims via spreadsheet or e-mail?
Claims can only be submitted via the CONNECT Songs website. Doing so will ensure we can pay you for your live performances as soon as possible.
I only want CONNECT Songs to assist me with sync placements and not deal with royalty administration; is this possible?
No, we only consider an artist's music for sync if we are also providing them with royalty administration.
Will you seek my permission before approving my music for sync placements?
Yes, however if you give us permission to pre-clear your music with our content providers, this will significantly increase your chances of landing a licensing opportunity for your music. Some production companies cover music under a blanket license, which means songs can be used without prior permission from the rights holder. All royalties earned for these placements are paid automatically, and Sentric will collect and pay you these royalties.
Will I earn money when I perform cover songs live?
No, you can only claim royalties for original songs to which you own the rights.
What if I have my own publishing company?
In order to take full advantage of the service offering, CONNECT Songs would replace your own publishing company as the worldwide original publisher of your catalogue. This structure enables CONNECT Songs to utilise our direct relationships with both collection societies and service providers to maximise the efficiency of global collections on your songs.
You still retain 100% of your rights as the copyright holder, CONNECT Songs are simply administering your royalty collection and taking a percentage of what we collect on your behalf.
Who is Sentric Music?
Sentric Music is an award winning publishing administration company. CONNECT Songs and Sentric have a strategic business relationship which enables Sentric to administer copyrights on behalf of CONNECT Songs. This means that your song is published by CONNECT Songs and administered by Sentric Music.
